●BOOK● KOTTI by Joxantonio Ormazabal

Joxantonio Ormazabal's KOTTI was published for the first time in the Perkax series in 1984 with illustrations by Luis Errazkin. Later in 2002 the book was republished in Xaguxar series with new illustrations by Jesus Lucas.

BACK-COVER BLURB from fifth edition

Kotti lived happily in Zerutxiki with his parents. It was a special town, really. The priest in the helicopter, the doctor in the boat and the musician on the donkey went there once a year. One day, however, something unexpected happened to Kotti, he got into an amazing adventure. And while that adventure lasted, the life of the protagonist of this book changed completely. All this, however, gave Kotti the opportunity to make a new friend, and it was no small feat.

Joxantonio Ormazabal was born at a time when children did not watch television. He started at the local school at the age of six. He spent a few years in the seminary, and then studied to be a teacher. He has written many books for children. Here are some: MARIPERTXENTA, PATXIBUSA, TXORIA ZEZENAREN ADAR GAINEAN, TXOKO TXIKI TXUKUNA, HITZAK JOKU, GORRITXO ETA BELTXIKO, AMONA BIZIKLETAN, BIHOTZA ZUBI... It gives him great joy to know that the children of the Basque Country enjoy reading his books.

●BOOK● TARTALO by Joxantonio Ormazabal

In the early 80's Jesus Lucas worked with Joxantonio Ormazabal in a collection titled Axut Saila adapting traditional Basque folk tales that in 1998 were re-published under the collection Mari Saila. Two stories were left out from this collection ASTOA, ZAKURRA, KATUA... and OTXOA ETA AZERIA but an eleventh new volume was published today with new illustrations by Jesus Lucas: TARTALO.

INTRODUCTION
The MARI SAILA (previously AXUT SAILA) is a collection of Basque folk tales. These tales, ten in total, have been handed down over the years through the oral tradition and were set down in writing in Joxe Migel Barandiaran's book EL MUNDO EN LA MENTE POPULAR VASCA.
As this is a children's collection, the texts have been revised to make them more suitable for young readers. This was carried out by Sagrario Yarnoz and Joxantonio Ormazabal.
The wonderful illustrations that bring the tales so vividly to life are the work of Jesus Lucas.
We would especially like to thank all those at Ekintza School in Donostia-San Sebastián for their participation in the conception of this project.
